Our History and Beliefs
History.  Faith Baptist Church has a rich history, dating back to 1894 in Burns.  In 1954, part of the congregation organized First Conservative Baptist Church in Hines.  In 1976 the Burns and Hines churches united to form Faith Baptist Church of Harney County, located immediately between the two towns.  The present building was constructed in 1980.  The church continues to be identified as a Conservative Baptist body.

Faith Baptist Church ’s Statement of Faith

Declaration of Faith

Bible:  We believe that the Bible is God’s infallible inerrant Word, that it was written by men divinely inspired, and that it has supreme authority in all matters of faith and conduct.

God:  We believe in God the Father, perfect in holiness, infinite in wisdom, measureless in power.  We rejoice that He concerns Himself mercifully with the affairs of mankind,  that He hears and answers prayer, and that He saves from sin and death all who come to Him through Jesus Christ.

Jesus Christ:  We believe in God the Son, Jesus Christ, who is God’s only begotten Son, born of a virgin, sinless in His life, making atonement for the sins of the world by His substitutionary death.  We believe in His bodily resurrection, His ascension into Heaven, His intercession for His people, His Lordship, and His personal, visible, pre-millennial return to the world according to His promise.

Holy Spirit:  We believe in God the Holy Spirit, who convicts the world of sin, of righteousness and of judgment; and who regenerates, sanctifies, guides, distributes spiritual gifts, and comforts those who believe in Jesus Christ.

Man:  We believe that every person by nature and by choice is a sinner and under penalty of eternal death.  We believe that salvation is God’s gift to all in the person of Jesus Christ.  Every person is saved from the eternal penalty of sin as a result of being born again by receiving Jesus Christ, by faith, as the Savior and Lord of every person’s life.

The Church:  We believe in the Church, a living, spiritual body, of which Christ is the head and of which all regenerate people since Pentecost are members.  We believe that a local church is a company of believers in Jesus Christ, baptized by immersion on a credible confession of faith, and associated for worship, work and fellowship.  We believe that God committed to the local church for perpetual observance the ordinances of baptism and the Lord’s Supper, and the task of presenting the saving Gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost world.  We believe that the spiritual ministry of the church must ever take precedence over human betterment and social improvement, which believers should also endeavor to forward.  We believe that the local church is to be independent and autonomous and is to be free from all outside ecclesiastical or political interference.  That therefore Church and State must be kept separate as having separate functions, each fulfilling its duties free from the dictation or patronage of the other.

Eternity:  We believe in the bodily resurrection of both believers and non-believers.  Believers will enjoy the wonders of God’s presence forever, and non-believers will be eternally separated from God and punished in the Lake of Fire .
